We offer Cat 1 Rail Medicals for rail safety workers in accordance with the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers (the Standard) requirements. The Cat 1 medical is the highest level of rail medical available.
What does a Cat 1 Rail Medical include?
A Cat 1 Rail Safety Worker Medical includes both questionnaire and clinical examination:
Health Questionnaire
- Sleep disorders (Epworth Sleepiness Scale)
- Alcohol dependency (AUDIT Questionnaire)
- Psychological problems (K10 Questionnaire).
Clinical Examination
- Pathology tests including HbA1c (type 2 diabetes) and cholesterol for cardiac risk level assessment. (To be undertaken prior to health assessment)
- Clinical examination focusing on cardiovascular, neurological, psychological, musculoskeletal, and visual systems.
- Resting electrocardiograph for detecting arrhythmias in Category 1 workers.
- Identification of other health conditions such as hypoglycemia, epilepsy, and transient ischaemic attacks that may result in sudden incapacity or collapse.
