Policies

See below for our policies and other important information.

Results of tests

The doctor will discuss following up results of tests with you at the time they are ordered. Usually you will be asked to make an appointment to get your results, and it is important that this is with the doctor that ordered the tests where possible. Doctors are not routinely available to discuss results by phone, unless this has been arranged at the time of your appointment. Appointments to discuss results will generally be bulk-billed unless further management is required.

Restricted medications

Our doctors will not prescribe restricted medications or other drugs of potential abuse to new patients on their first consultation. This includes most strong pain-killers, sleeping tablets and sedatives. Instead we will make arrangements to collect all relevant clinical information as quickly as possible to allow us to prescribe safely and responsibly. We will not make exceptions to this, in line with Department of Health regulations, so please do not ask us to do so.

Phoning your doctor

Unfortunately we are not able to put through calls to our doctors while they are consulting except in an emergency. Our staff will instead put a message through to the doctor, and he or she will be able to respond typically within 2-3 days. Please advise us if you need a more rapid response. Your doctor may arrange to call you after your consultation to obtain further information or to give urgent advice of results.

Email

National guidelines do not currently allow the use of email to communicate personal medical information because of privacy concerns. For this reason please ensure that if you are emailing any of the staff at the clinic that your email is not of a personal medical nature.

Abusive behaviour or language

We will strive to protect our staff and other patients from abusive behavior or bad language, and this will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Any person who is unable to respect this policy will be asked to leave and may be asked to transfer their care to another provider.

Non-medicare consultations

We are happy to provide services such as pre-employment medical examination, reports and witnessing of passport photos and signatures. Please understand however that these non-medical services are not funded by Medicare. If you leave your documents with staff at reception, then the doctor will attend to completing your paperwork at the earliest opportunity. Pre-employment medical will incur a private fee dependent on the complexity of the report required by your employer or regulating authority.
